Join us for Worship:

Sunday Service is at 9:30AM and on Wednesday night at 7PM there is a small group Bible Study.

Welcome to St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church, Nashville. We are delighted you have found our website.

This historic black congregation started as a campus ministry in 1960 for Tennessee State University, Fisk University, and Meharry Medical College.  Civil rights attorney Z. Alexander Looby, member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with a heart for the Anglican students at the HBCUs donated the property adjacent to his home, to the Diocese of Tennessee for the establishment of a campus ministry. We continue today as a Mission Church of the Diocese of Tennessee gathering for worship, fellowship, growth in Christ, and service.

Visitor’s Guide

When visiting Sunday Worship St. Anselm’s, feel free park anywhere knowing the “Reserved Parking” signs apply only Monday-Friday. Walk around to the front red door that says “Entrance”.

Pick up an Order of Service bulletin on the table or from the usher, to follow along with the service.

Note that our liturgy, or the order of the prayers, is called the Holy Eucharist Rite II from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. The first part of the service includes hymns,  prayers, readings from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, a sermon, reciting the Nicene Creed, and more hymns from the Lift Every Voice And Sing African American Hymnal and the 1982 Hymnal. We end the service each week with Holy Communion which is open to all who are baptized believers.
